Where are your keys? Wait! Where is your CAR?
In the last week I’ve heard of 3 cars being stolen. All of which were done by someone entering the home and stealing the car keys or handbag. This is quite a common theft these days but particularly during the dark evenings as the intruder can get about undetected.
To make matters worse, it can cost a small fortune to have your car locks, house locks and all other locks changed at the same time but it’s necessary once a bunch of keys have been stolen. And with no sign of forced entry your insurance company won’t be too happy to pay out.
The first bit of advice is to lock all doors and windows even when you’re at home. Keep keys in drawers or cupboards away from the doors. And be observant; these people are watching you come and go from the home and take note of things such as putting keys in your coat, bag or pockets.
Thee are preventative measures you can take such as:
1. Install security lights to detect people approaching your property
2. Have your alarm system chime when the doors open (we can modify all existing alarms to do this)
3. Lock the doors at all times, you can have Sash Jammers installed so that keys aren’t needed
4. Make your security system obvious. Whether it’s alarms. CCTV, locks or lights, make them obvious
5. Have a professional security company give you advice and free quotations on how to make your security measures work to protect you, but also be easy to use and comply with your insurance policy.

So the dark mornings and nights are here. If there’s one thing burglars don’t like, its light. It isn’t exactly safe to break into a house while a spotlight is shining on you, and even worse if there are several lights that alert the home owner.
It’s true more burglaries are being commited during the daylight hours than previously. But dark nights allow more time to break into houses and go unnoticed. It also means the burglars can take their time to unload the loot from the house
At almost every house where we carry out a security assessment we recommend a security light, usually 2, unless they already have one.
At this time of the year however, the hardest thing to understand is when people post on twitter or facebook that they have been christmas shopping! Burglars live for this time of year. Keep your goods out of site, out of the way of being spotted through the window, out of the car, and keep your doors locked, even during the day.
Get a security assessment from a pro, because they dont look at keeping people out, they look at how to currently get in to a house.
For the rest of September Ground Lock are going to double the security on your doors during alarm installations.
As the dark nights draw in, remember that a lot of burglaries take place from someone entering a door or window where security is a bit slack. Day or night time doesn’t really matter anymore, but shorter days offer more cover for the burglars, thieves, con artists and ‘doorstep robbers’
If you have an alarm installed by Ground Lock during september, where a upvc door has an alarm contact installed – we will also install a new lock on that door. So, a flat with one main door will also recieve a new lock with upto 5 keys. If you have 2 doors, then you get 2 new locks with upto 5 keys each, or keyed alike locks (the same 5 keys will open or lock both doors) If you have 4 doors, front, back and 2 french doors for example, then you get 4 new locks, with up to 5 keys each or keyed alike system and so on..
We can also carry out any door and lock checks and servicing while at your home, and a free security assessment.
All work is quoted before carrying out, for free. Any questions or queries you may have please do not hesitate to call at any time.
We take your safety and security seriously, so you don’t even need to think about it.
Security should be easy to use, and hard to breech! Tired of fidgeting with codes at the front door while holding bags of shopping or business papers etc? Can’t even remember your alarm code? What about if you just know the code but the alarm just doesn’t work or goes off for no reason or when there’s a power cut?
Then you need to get the alarm serviced!
This could be a condition of your insurance policy too so check that you get it done annually or you could VOID your policy. (!)
A service by a pro should include getting the alarm to good working order, and checking that everything works as it should do, including checking the battery levels. The alarm should be clean and have contact details of the engineer attached to it. The siren box outside should have the engineers label on too, no labels often means the engineer isn’t a professional (he may be an electrician or know how the alarm works, but he may not have the knowledge for your system, its performance and capabilities) Professional security installers always have their own labels put up there on the siren and inside the home so that you can contact them should something go wrong.
They should also be able to teach you how to use your system and give you a valid reciept after the service (this is important as you may need it in the event of an insurance claim).
Can’t remember if you set the alarm?
Call the alarm from your mobile and check it’s status.
Decided to stay with friends over nigh and need to put the alarm on?
Call up the alarm from your mobile and swith it on.
Want a friend to call in your house to pick something up but dont want to disclose your alarm code?
Call the alarm from your mobile and swith it off, switch it on again once they leave.
Have kids that are not coming straight home from school?
Have your alarm text you once they get home and unset it.
Want to protect upstairs in your home during the day but not at night so you can use the bathroom etc?
Do Not OMIT the zones, have a program to do exactly what you need, at anytime of the day or night.
And how about if your alarm could have a PANIC BUTTON, Smoke detector, Flood detector or CO detector?
It can! and these too can be linked to your mobile.
If in any doubt, call us for free advice and quotations. You can’t afford to play with security, but you can have it working for you, and with you.
Wireless Burglar Alarms
If you’re debating on a burglar alarm system and asking whether to pursue a wireless installation… then, whats keeping you?
Heres a rundown:
Wireless alarms mean that there is no need to drill holes through walls and frames to run cables through. No need to lift carpets and flooring to lay cabling. No chance of a pet or rodent chewing through the cables and causing a problem (It does happen) No chance of damaging the cables when decorating etc and you can always reposition the detector if you change the decor or modify the room. No need to run conduit (trunking) around rooms to hide cables.
You also should find that although the systems are a little more expensive, you will save on installation costs and time.
I’m still thinking of a genuine reason here..
Batteries? Nah, Lithium-ion technology means 2-3+ years of battery life, plus they give about 3 months warning when they run low and can be checked and changed upon the annual maintenance.
False alarms/poor signals/Interferance? Nah, not with professional equipment.
I had a customer have me take out a wireless alarm, a cheap one her son bought at a DIY counter. Apparently it went off everytime the number 23 bus went past her home! I installed a professional wireless alarm in its place and it only goes off when she tests it as she has never had a burglar (The obvious but discreet siren outside and small sign indicating the alarm is afantastic detterent!)
So, in this day and age, what else might a wireless system like this do?
Well, they can call you on your mobile if the alarm is activated. Text you when the kids get home from school. They are pet friendly. They can detect smoke, floods extreme temperature variations and alert you if these happen via your mobile. They can be operated by a remote control fob (no codes to fiddle with at the door) and using your mobile you can call the system to check its status, switch it on or off from your mobile. To be honest there are lots of things you can do with them, but why not let us design a system that suits you uniquely?
If you already have an alarm system, wired or not, we can modify it to do most of these things too.
Don’t forget to get your alarm serviced annually to keep in check with your insurance policy.
Any questions or concerns you may have about security, safety or access, then please give us a call, email or text and we’ll soon get you safe and secure
How much would you pay for ALL of your possessions? Does your insurance policy even cover that?
I can save you money. I can save you heartache. Burglary can be devastating, even if you move home victims claim to never feel as safe again for years. Burglary victims often suffer from violence or fear of violence (even after the event) loss of possessions (some irreplaceable or sentimental items) feelings of paranoia and intusion, fear for childrens safety and sadly, properties are often targeted a second or third time.
So again, how much would you pay?
An alarm system that monitors your property for floods, fire, intruders, has a panic alarm, and calls your mobile to let you know when these things are happening.. it can even just let you know that the kids have gotten home safely. You can ‘call’ your system for an update, and even listen in to your home. Your system can call Ground Lock when you’re away from home, perhaps on holiday if it is triggered.
How much does this cost?
A one off fee for installation of a system designed to uniquely ‘fit’ your property, family and their lifestyle. No contracts, No monthly fee, No obligations. If you need Ground Lock, we are there to support you 24/7 365, at very reasonable rates. You’ll be surprised.
Want to go the extra mile?
CCTV that can be viewed from an internet terminal or even from your iPhone, Blackberry or Android Mobile. Check on staff at your work premises, children and carers at home. Check on the pets, and of course capture any of those instances where crime comes to your door.
Here are two scenarios:
You’re away on holiday when your alarm detects a flood. It has been set to call Ground Lock in any instance of alert. Ground Lock take the call, then call a plumber whom they arrange to meet at your address. Using Locksmith techniques or our Spare Key Storage facility we can let the plumber in, stop the flood. Make repairs. Minimise Damage. Alert relevant family/neighbour. Secure the property. Take any designated, agreed action you choose.
Alarm install average from: £580. Emergency Attendance Call out from £80
You’re away from home when your alarm calls to say there is a disturbance in your home. It tells you what kind of disturbance, in this case it’s an intruder alert. You can then hang up your mobile and look at your home cctv footage via your mobile and ‘capture’ an image of the intruder! Call the police and give them a description of the intruder, what they are doing, what they are stealing. You can then email that image to a neighbour or relative to hand to the police.
Alarm install average from: £550. CCTV install average with mobile viewing from £690
Still think its a hard sell? You might also SAVE on your insurance policy too..
Ground Lock have the bonus of Locksmith services which compliment the alarm and cctv services perfectly. We can make your home secure, but also make it safe, and grant easy access to those permitted.
Ground Lock have and worked all over the country. We’d love to speak to you about any concerns you have regarding security and access. For a free, no obligation quotation give us a call.
Peace of mind is just a phonecall away.
Alarm servicing is an important part of your security system. In it’s entirety it makes sure that everything the alarm is supposed to do works correctly.
If the alarm is listed on your insurance policy you could void your cover if you do not carry out a yearly service; even if everything is working.
Part of the service will be to check that the battery power is sufficient and possibly replace it. But servicing doesn’t stop there. Every PIR sensor and door contact, every panic button, keypad, speaker, siren and any other devices should be tested to ensure they work accordingly. Cabling should be checked where possible and it would also be a good time to change your user code.
Your alarm service provider should be able to check you are using the system properly and advise on any changes. The siren or bell box outside should be checked too and cleaned up; a new sticker or label should be applied where the old one has faded or is missing. This shows clearly that the alarm is serviced, checked and in working order.
Contact details of the service provider should be applied to your system and you should get a receipt which is dated. You may need this receipt for your insurance provider in the event of making a claim or renewal. If you can’t prove to your insurance company that your system was serviced in the current year then this too could void your warranty.
Not sure when your alarm was serviced last? Not sure which part of your home is covered? Not sure if previous owners know the user code? Any questions you have about your system should be asked to your security service provider.
